STURGEON LAKE, Minn.  — A lightning strike has killed a man in eastern Minnesota.

Pine County sheriff’s officials say first responders were called to an address in Sturgeon Lake Monday night. A 53-year-old man had been hit by lightning and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake where he later died of his injuries.

WDIO-TV reports authorities say the victim was standing in a large pool of water near a tree when the man and the tree were struck by a lightning bolt.
