Kirby shuts down Mets as Blue Sox get a split

The Austin Blue Sox closed their regular season by splitting a doubleheader with the Mankato Mets at Marcusen Park Saturday.

John Kirby pitched a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 win for Austin and the Blue Sox (13-12 overall) dropped the nightcap 3-0.

Quinn Yocom and Brandon Rector each had 2 RBIs in the win for the Blue Sox, who enter the Section Tournament as the No. 3 seed.

The Blue Sox will play the Austin Greyhounds, who are seeded No. 2, in a Section tournament game at Marcusen Park Friday at 7 p.m.

The Mets are the top-seeded team in the section and the Rochester Royals are No. 4.
