Huffman struck out 11 and scattered eight hits in the win, but he did face a couple of jams early. He allowed six of his hits in the first two innings and the Royals left the bases loaded in the third, but he Rochester didn’t do much damage after that point.

“I was ready for it, but it didn’t seem like I had the energy in the first couple of innings,” Huffman said. “Then the offense picked up and I started settling down a little bit.”

The Hounds (9-4 overall) opened strong as Craig Braaten singled in a run in the first, Nate Johnson doubled in three runs in the second and Dave Adams singled in another run in the second to make it 6-1.

“It’s a big win and we’ve got to build from it. We’ve got to keep it rolling,” Huffman said.

Braaten hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Bryan Toov doubled in a run in the eighth.
