An Austin Police officer continues to be a DWI enforcement all-star.

Jeff McCormack is one of 34 officers and prosecutors who were invited to a Minnesota Twins game to be honored for efforts to stop impaired driving. McCormack made 61 DWI arrests in 2012, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Gordon Shank was the top DWI enforcer in the state with 269 arrests in 2012. This is the sixth DWI Enforcer All-Star squad, presented by OTS and sponsored by AAA Minneapolis. The all-stars are selected for outstanding service in enforcement and in prosecution of drunk driving.

“Although we take time each year to recognize the top DWI officers and prosecutors for their service, we must not forget the hundreds of other enforcers statewide who are committed to arresting drunk drivers to ensure motorists make it home safely,” says Donna Berger, director of the DPS Office of Traffic Safety.

Last year in Minnesota, drunk driving crashes accounted for 104 deaths — 26 percent of the state’s total traffic deaths. In 2012, 28,418 motorists were arrested for DWI.
