Myron “Mike” D. Hyland Sr., 78

Myron “Mike” D. Hyland Sr., 78, of Hannibal, Miss., formerly of Austin, Minn., passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Myron Dean Hyland Sr. was born on Nov. 30, 1934, to Jens A. and Esther (Smith) Hyland on the family farm east of Austin. Myron attended rural Burr Oak School and Austin High School. He married Ernestine Nelson on Dec. 27, 1952, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Myron was a farmer, construction superintendent, an auctioneer and an antique dealer, with a life-long appreciation of hard work and skilled craftsmanship. His hobbies included traveling, especially to auction destinations, reading, wood-working, home remodeling and playing cards, especially with his family and grandchildren. Always finding work a pleasure, Myron and his son Rick operated Hyland Antiques in Hannibal.

Myron’s greatest treasure and source of pride was his family, and he loved spending time and sharing his talents with them. His advice and counsel, his keen memory and many stories, his sense of humor, and smiling blue eyes will be deeply missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant brother, his brother Milo Hyland and his brother-in-law Arleigh Anthonisen.

Myron is survived by his wife and partner of 60 years, Ernestine (Nelson) Hyland; his five children, Sherry (Paul) Hyland Cavanaugh, Clearwater, Fla., Darise (Doug) Ingvaldson, Owatonna, Minn., Myron D. (Debra) Hyland Jr., Brainerd, Minn., Rick Hyland, Hannibal, Mo., and Lori (Roger Brennan) Hyland Norris, Clearwater, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Leigh “Katie,” Christina, Patrick, Erika, Naomi, Matthew, Tina, Jessika, Joshua and Jonathan; six great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty (Vernon) Vold, Lake Mills, Iowa, Esther Anthonisen, Austin; brother and sisters-in-law, Robert A. (Irene) Hyland, Austin; Helen Hyland, Austin; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Odermann officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on Tuesday for one hour before the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church. Arrangements by O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, and Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin. The casket bearers will be Patrick Ingvaldson, Joshua Norris, Jonathan Norris, Matthew Hyland, Brett Olsen and Arleigh Anthonisen.
