Maxine Marie (Arens) Christensen, 92, of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Austin Mayo Health Systems Hospital.

Maxine was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Austin to Edward and Gertrude (Skjeveland) Arens. Maxine was baptized and confirmed at St. Augustine Church in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1938. During World War II she worked at the Hormel offices and married Paul M. Christensen on Dec. 9, 1942, at Queen of Angels Church. Maxine was a Gold Star Mother, lifetime member of the American Legion and Women’s Auxiliary, a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. We miss and love her always.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; son 1st Lieutenant Jan Paul Christensen (Vietnam); husband Paul; brothers Daniel and Eugene Arens; and sister Virginia (Arens) Meyers. She is survived by her children Jay and Carmilla (Cain) Christensen, Rick (Carla Cook) Christensen, Ron and Leonor Christensen, Jeff (Ashley Haye) Christensen, Cathy and Mike Jensen; daughter-in-law Sally (Christensen) and Duane Anderson; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Maxine Christensen will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013, at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin, celebrated by Father James Steffes. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.mayerfh.com.
