Lowell H. Haug, 88, of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, June 11, 1913, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

Lowell Harold Haug was born Sept. 30, 1924, at New Richland, Minn., the son of David E. and Luella (Evenson) Haug. He graduated from the New Richland High School and served in the U.S. Army. Lowell was the recipient of a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart during his service in the Army.
Lowell was married to Orlie Mae Farr on Jan. 1, 1950, at Geneva, Minn. The Haugs resided in Austin, where Lowell worked at the Hormel Foods Corporation until the time of his retirement. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, serving on the Board of Deacons, and the Church Council. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and had been the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award while he served as a Boy Scout Leader.
Lowell was a devoted family man and loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their concerts and sporting events. In his younger days, he was a softball player and he became an avid shuffleboard player when he and Orlie spent a number of winters in Texas. They also traveled several times to Europe in their retirement.
Lowell was preceded in death by his wife Orlie in 2007; a son, Bruce Haug; his parents; and a brother Dale.
He is survived by daughters, Lois Nordling, Edina, Minn., Brenda Haug and Diane Jacobson, Columbia Heights, Minn., Pauline Haug, Eagan, Minn.; sons and daughters-in-law, Arden and Janna Haug, Stillwater, Minn., Myron and Sue Haug, Winona, Minn., Jean Henle, Marshall, Minn.; nine grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Arlyss Haug, Clarks Grove, Minn.; sister Irene Wanous, Owatonna, Minn.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday June 14, 2013, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Elizabeth Endicott officiating. Military rites conducted by Austin Post No. 91 American Legion. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery, Geneva, Minn. Visitation will be held on Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church from noon until 12:45 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church, The Geneva Cemetery Fund or to the donor’s choice. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
