Irene LaVilla Bye, 90, of Austin, died Saturday, June 14, 2013, at MethWick Community Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Irene was born Jan. 8, 1923, in LeRoy, Minn. to Dennis and Hazel (Wright) Mahoney. She graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1941, and on July 5, 1941, married Wayne Bye in Grand Meadow. Irene and Wayne moved from LeRoy to Austin in 1951. A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin, Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing up north, bird watching, playing cards, roller-skating, basketball, cooking and baking.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Gretchen) Bye of Vero Beach, Florida; Steve (Sue) Bye of Minneapolis; one granddaughter, Susan (David) Pohlman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three great grandchildren, Julia, Ryan and Justin; a brother, Ronald (Kay) Mahoney of San Diego, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Naida Samuel of Austin; a special niece, Joy Bernatz of rural Dexter, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; granddaughter, Bridget Pickavance; granddaughter, Barbara.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Austin. The family prefers memorials to donor’s choice or the M S Society. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com
