ST. PAUL — Both of Austin’s state qualifying runners had their seasons end in the Class ‘AA’ state track and field preliminaries in Hamline University Friday.
Austin senior Omot Okello finished 15th in the 300-meter hurdles and 20th in the 110-meter hurdles.
Okello ran a time of 41.34 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles.
“The first two hurdles were good, but at the third hurdle it went bad,” Okello said of that race. “Overall, I think it was pretty good. I was ready to go, it was just one of those days.”
Austin sophomore Carolyn Hackel finished 11th in the 200-meter dash and 20th in the 100-meter dash.
“I definitely got what I put into it. It’s just such a blessing to be our here in the first place,” said Hackel, who was running in her second state meet. “t was a little less intimidating this year.”
Hackel ran a time of 26.01 seconds in the 200-meter dash and she missed the finals by .31 of a second.
Hackel ran the 100-meter dash in 12.78 seconds.
“The 100 was a little rough,” she said. “I wasn’t happy with that at all. I wasn’t nervous and that’s unlike me. Right away I didn’t think I would have my best day.”
