Mildred Sophie Perl, 99, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, one month before her 100th birthday, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Mildred was born July 3, 1913, to Rose Dore (Gute) and John P. Peterson in Austin. She married Norman Henry Perl on Sept. 17, 1931. He passed away in December 1968.

Mildred was a charter member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin and worked devotedly for many years helping out whenever she could. She also volunteered at the Philomathian Religious Book Store until she was no longer able. Mildred was a beautiful seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, counted cross stitch and crafts in general. She made Christmas ornaments yearly for her children and grandchildren.

Mildred loved her family, her church and life in general. She always looked for the best in others and gave the best she had. Her life was an inspiration and she will always be loved and never forgotten. Rest in peace Mom.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Sacred Heart Care Center for their compassionate and loving care of Mom.

Survivors include her children, Carol Jean (Tom) Krause, Normal, Ill., David John Perl, Austin, Mary Jane Johnson, Austin, Dr. Michael Francis (Ann) Perl, Manhattan, Kan., Stephen Norman Perl, Mankato, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Krause, Anne Murphy, Kathleen Fuller, Murray Johnson, Scott A. Johnson, Paul Perl, Elizabeth “Libby” Perl, Sarah Monzu, David Perl, Dacia Bentzin; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcella Carlson, Austin, Virginia Dehn, Waterville, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond and John E. Peterson; sister, Evelyn Kennedy; son, Jon Thomas Perl; grandson, Mark Joseph Krause.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 2 p.m. CCW rosary on Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. The family will also greet friends at a luncheon following the service on Sunday.
