Gene Alan Snyder, 84, of Grand Meadow, Minn., died of pancreatic cancer on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Spring Valley Care Center.

Gene was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Austin, Minn., the son of Peter and Julia (Guiney) Snyder. He later moved to Grand Meadow and served in the United States Army in Korea, where he attained the rank of sergeant. Gene lived with his wife, Addie, in rural Grand Meadow for 57 years until three days prior to his death.

Gene enjoyed woodworking, reading, Westerns, fishing and agriculture. His career included farming, carpentry, machining and ag-related sales, which he especially enjoyed. Most of all, he delighted in spending time with his wife and family.

Gene is survived by his wife, Adeline “Addie” (Malecek) Snyder of Grand Meadow; two daughters, Laurie Snyder of Rochester and Kim (Russ) Bultman of Eufaula, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Candace (Reed) Snyder of Spring Valley, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Craig (Lari) Meyer, Thomas Lantz, Anna (D.J.) Werner, Lindsey Snyder, Pamela Sherman, Katie Thorie, and Emmy (Gabe) Bly; great-granddaughter, Haley Mattsen; two sisters, Sr. Ruth Snyder of Rochester and Mariah Snyder of the Twin Cities; brother Paul (Irene) Snyder of Grand Meadow; and sister-in-law Alice Snyder of Grand Meadow.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John “J.T.” Snyder; three sisters, Mary, Catherine and Angie; and two brothers, John and Joseph.

A funeral Mass for Eugene “Gene” Snyder will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and one hour prior to the service at church.
