Letter to the Editor: Drive was a successPublished 10:44am Monday, May 27, 2013
City and rural letter carriers in Austin and Mower County thank all who generously gave to our recent food drive.
We collected 11,246 pounds of much-needed food for our local food shelf at the Salvation Army. Thank you Janet Anderson and KAAL-TV, John Wright and KAUS AM/FM, and the Austin Daily Herald for helping get the word out. Our gratitude goes to the volunteers from the Austin High Honor Society, Sharon Alms and the Jaycees. Thanks to Hy-Vee for your continued support and providing the bags, which helped make the drive a success. A special thank you to Lafe Diser at Hy-Vee for his patience and follow-through spirit.
We appreciate city churches for their assistance. Finally, thank you, Mayor Stiehm and the city council for your year-to-year support. We will be at it again next year, the second Saturday in May to help provide food for those in our area who need it.
