BAYTOWNE, FLA. — Austin grad Catherine Wagner had another strong showing at the NCAA Division III women’s golf championships at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Friday.

After winning the tournament last season, Wagner, who is a senior at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, finished sixth in this year’s tournament with a four-day score of 311.

“I played well on my last two days and I was able to come back and finish strong,” Wagner said. “It hasn’t really sunk in that this was my last college meet.”

Laura Lindsey of University of Texas at Tyler won the title with a score of 296.

Wagner came on strong at the end of the tournament as she shot a 75 and 77 on Thursday and Friday after shooting an 80 and a 79 on the first two days of play.

Although she fell behind in the early rounds, Wagner knew better than to count herself out of contention.

“I’ve been here four times now and I knew I wasn’t out of it,” Wagner said. “I knew some players would choke and I would be able to move up.”

Wagner was recently named to the Women Golf Coaches Association All America second team and she finishes her Blugold career as a three-time All-American and she was the 2010 rookie of the year.

Wagner plans to continue playing in summer golf tournaments as her college golf career comes to an end.
