Austin police arrested a 29-year-old man last Friday for allegedly beating and strangling a woman after pulling her out of a car by her hair and throwing her to the ground.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said the man was arrested at the 2200 block of Fourth Drive Southwest at about 10:15 p.m. Friday for felony domestic assault and strangulation.
According to a police report, the man and a 25-year-old woman were arguing in the car earlier that day when the 29-year-old grabbed her by the hair, pulled her out of the car and threw her down. The 29-year-old allegedly punched her repeatedly in the face and legs, choked her and threatened to kill her.
The victim was taken to the emergency unit at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin. Krueger said police noted bruising and red marks on both sides of her face, legs and arms, as well as red marks on her throat.
The 29-year-old was arrested without incident and was taken to the Mower County jail pending formal charges from the Mower County Attorney’s Office.
