The Austin girls track and field team opened its season with a second-place finish at the four-team Faribault invite Thursday.

Kendall Hackensmith took first in the 300-meter hurdles for Austin, Carolyn Hackel took first in the 200-meter dash, Karyn Potach took first in the 400-meter dash, Madison Overby took first in the 3200-meter run and Rachel Quandt took first in the high jump.

“We had some great performances tonight given the fact we have only had one full practice at the track which has made it difficult for our field event athletes to get technique practice accomplished,” Austin head coach Nancy Jones said.
