Norman Arthur Johnson, 90, of Blooming Prairie, Minn., died Wednesday morning, April 24, 2013, at the Owatonna Care Center in Owatonna, Minn.

Norman was born Jan. 14, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., to Arndt and Helen (Lestrud) Johnson. After graduating from Blooming Prairie High School, Norman joined the United States Army, where he served his country in Germany from 1944 to 1946. Upon his discharge from the Army, he made his living as a farmer. After retiring from farming, he moved to his home in Austin, where he lived until moving to the Cedars in 2005. Norman was an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his sister, Margaret Swearingen of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; five nieces and nephews, Barbara (Jim) Carriger of Edina, Minn., Kent Swearingen of Lake Havasu City, Kathy (Alan) Knudson of Ellendale, Minn., Gary (Denise) Swearingen of Maple Lake, Minn., and David Swearingen of Lake Havasu City. He was preceded in death by his parents Arndt and Helen Johnson, his sister Marian Peterson and nephew Bill Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with Pastor Lindsay Stolen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home.
