LA CRESCENT — The Hayfield baseball team opened its season with a pair of one-run losses in a doubleheader at La Crescent (2-0 overall) Saturday.

The Vikings (0-2 overall) lost the first game 6-5 in eight innings and dropped the nightcap 7-6.

The Lancers executed a suicide squeeze play with one out to win the first game in the bottom of the eighth. Hayfield had the tying run on second in the bottom of the seventh with the top of its order up, but it couldn’t come up with a hit.
