With a little luck from the Irish, this weekend could be quite enjoyable. Get ready to laugh, cry, reminisce and move. Regardless, eat corned beef and cabbage, please.

 

1. Hippie movement

Take a trip back to the 60s with the Age of Aquarius, 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NW. Denny Charnecki and his crew are back at it with the classic rock that has stood the test of time. Tickets in advance are $14 for adults, $12 for Paramount members or $5 for students, or $2 more at the door.

2. Putnam County on stage

Southland High School will put Putnam County in Mower County this weekend. The theater students are performing a fairly new but popular one-act musical comedy, “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” The play — dedicated to 16-year-old Tess Landherr, who passed away two weeks ago — is 7 p.m. Friday at the school, 203 Second St. NW. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and free for ages 7 and younger.

3. Tough competition

The wrestling season isn’t quite over yet, folks. Youngsters K-8 who still want to hit the mat can do so tonight at Austin High School during the Shamrock Open, 301 Third St. NW. The event starts at 5 p.m. Friday with weigh-ins, and walk-ins will be accepted until 5:30 p.m. Wrestling should start at about 6:30. All wrestlers must have NYWA membership insurance, which is $15. Fee to wrestle, which goes to Austin Parks and Recreation is $12. Parent admission is $4.

4. Funny as a Fargusson

Stand-up comedy is starting to inch its way into Austin, and it will continue this Saturday with three comics at the Austin Eagles Club, 107 11th St. NE. Former Rose Creek resident Josh Fargusson will open the stage with his act, followed by feature Lindsey Hensel and headliner Robert Baril. Tickets are $15 in advance or $17 at the door. The show starts at 8 p.m.

5. Now what?

U wanna what? No really, that’s the name of the event this Sunday at the Oak Park Mall, 1301 18th Ave. NW. The free event is back for the third year in a row with games and prizes for kids of all ages. The best part? There are two days to attend: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 Sunday.
