Blossoms advance to subsection finals

ROCHESTER — The top-seeded Blooming Prairie boys basketball team beat No. 5 Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (10-15 overall) 73-57 in the Section 1A West semifinals in Mayo Civic Auditorium Wednesday.

Jimmy Mans had a career-high 12 points and he added seven rebounds in the win for BP.

“Jimmy had a great game at a great time,” BP head coach John Bruns said. “We got out to a nice lead early and it was nice to be in control.”

The Awesome Blossoms (17-9 overall) led by 13 at the half and they will now play No. 2 Faribault Bethlehem Academy Saturday at 8 p.m. in Mayo Auditorium.

FBA (18-10 overall) ended BP’s season last year, but BP swept them by scores of 72-66 and 64-53 this season.

“It’s gonna be a battle, just like every time we play them,” Bruns said. “It’s definitely not going to be easy.”

Sophomore John Rumpza had 25 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and three steals for BP Wednesday, Michael Thomas added 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists and Weston Fiebiger had seven points and six assists.
