Austin police arrested three Albert Lea residents early Saturday after finding 90 grams of marijuana and various drug paraphernalia in their car.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said officers stopped a 2005 Chevy Impala at about 1:53 a.m. Saturday near Fourth Avenue and 16th Street Southeast. A 19-year-old Albert Lea man, a 16-year-old male teenager and a 26-year-old Albert Lea man were taken into custody after police found pot in the car, according to a police report.

Krueger said the 19-year-old driver was also charged with driving after revocation, and police seized and had his car forfeited. The 26-year-old man forfeited about $480 in cash and the 16-year-old forfeited $359 in cash, as well.

Both adults were taken to Mower County jail pending formal charges, while the 16-year-old was released to his father.

Wow, the cops sure are greedy for only 3.2 ounces of pot! How can they seize all of that money and property?

What a great police state we live in. Found guilty without trial. Even if these guys are found not guilty in the court trial they will never get there property back. What ever happened to due process of the law and innocent until proven guilty. I know they made it a law but it is a ridiculous law. What if the police were corrupt and planted the weed on a person they disliked. They can just take all the property on their word against the suspect, no questions asked. Oh of course, No police officer would ever do such a thing…Give me a break.

The comment deleted just shows what kind of mentality we don’t need on the police force…immaturity, ignorance, intolerance, and disrespect for their fellow man.
