Packer boys finish regular season unbeaten

OWATONNA — The Austin boys basketball team put the finishing touches of a fantastic regular season when it beat Owatonna (15-11 overall, 11-7 Big Nine) on the road Friday.

The No. 2 ranked Packers (25-0 overall, 18-0 Big Nine) trailed 41-40 halfway through the second, half but Bret Lukes, who scored 15 points, and Ajuda Nywesh each hit 3-pointers during a 12-0 Austin run.

“Owatonna played really well tonight,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “That big run was key.”

Austin senior Tom Aase finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

“Tom was making plays all over tonight,” Fadness said. “He was pretty big.”

The Packers will most likely be the top-seeded team in Section 1AAA and they will open the tournament at home next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
