RED WING — The Austin boys hockey team saw its season come to an end on a 3-2 double overtime loss to No. 7 seeded Red Wing (5-19-2 overall) in the first round of the Section 1A tournament on the road Tuesday.

RW won the game on goal that came with one minute left of the second overtime.

“Red Wing is a very good team and they play a lot of tough competition,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “We were right with them until the end and our seniors played their hearts out.”

The No. 10 seeded Packers (7-16-1 overall) took a 2-0 lead when Marcus Stoulil scored on assists from Ethan Larson and Dan Larson 30 seconds into the third period, but the Wingers eventually tied the game on a goal with three minutes left in the game.

Austin’s first goal came from Trevor Stevens in the second period.

Austin senior Rainer Londino-Green had 64 saves in net and Austin had 27 shots on goal.

“We pretty much controlled the first two and a half periods,” LaRock said. “Rainer did a good job of keeping rebounds in the corner and our defense cleared their guys in front of the net.”
