The Riverland men’s basketball team dropped its final home game of the season when it fell 81-61 to Fergus Falls in Riverland Gym.

The Blue Devils (12-13 overall, 5-7 MCAC South) led 39-36 at the break, but couldn’t keep it up.

“Two of our best shooters were injured in week two and teams are sagging in against us and stopping our drive,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “Brandon Kowalski and Ruben Williams were two of our best shooters and it’s unfortunate we don’t have them.”

RCC will have road games against Western Tech Wednesday and Minnesota West Saturday.

If the Blue Devils can win both those games they’ll have their first state tournament appearance since the 1997-1998 season and just their second winning season in forty years.

“The pressure’s off us and we play better on the road than at home,” Koenigs said. “They’re both winnable games.”
