MANKATO — Austin freshman Shayley Vesel made the biggest play of her young career with the Austin basketball team as she scored on a put-back with five seconds left as the Packers beat Mankato West (4-7 overall, 1-4 Big Nine) on the road Friday.

Austin (4-7 overall, 1-4 Big Nine), which has now won four straight games played the last stretch of the game without Jenna Svoboda, who scored 13, and Steph Justice, who scored 11, as they both fouled out.

“We were hanging by a thread there but we persevered,” Austin head coach Todd Johnson said. “Shayley didn’t play a lot for us, but she made a big play and she won it for us.”
