A grocery store nutrition class started in Austin is garnering national attention.

The Food Marketing Institute awarded Hy-Vee a 2012 FMI Community Outreach Award for youth development for the Sprouts “Get Out and Grow!” program started by local dietitian Jennifer Haugen.

Hy-Vee was one of six companies to win an award and receive $1,000 to enhance its recognized program.

Haugen started the program two years ago in Austin, and the classes have spread to other Hy-Vee stores across the country.
