Austin woman’s van collides with semi

HARTLAND — A 45-year-old Austin woman was injured Monday afternoon in a broadside crash on Minnesota Highway 13 north of Hartland.

The woman, Heidi Kirby, was transported by ambulance to the Albert Lea hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Kirby was driving northbound near the intersection of 335th Street at about 12:30 p.m. in a 2006 Dodge Cargo van. She made a U-turn in front of a second vehicle, a 2006 Freightliner tractor, driven by Terry Grunig, 61, of Truman, Minn. Grunig reportedly veered left but collided with Kirby’s vehicle in the front bumper.

Grunig was not injured.

Both drivers were reportedly wearing their seat belts.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s office assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
