The city of Austin is taking steps to find a new assistant city engineer.

City officials say about a dozen applicants turned in their paperwork by the end of last week, when the application period ended.

Human Resources Director Tricia Wiechmann said the city will review applications this week and set up interviews. While the city does not have a specific timeframe to fill the position, Wiechmann said, the city could have someone in place by early March.

Steven Lang, current assistant city engineer, is set to succeed Public Works Director Jon Erichson next month. Erichson will become the new executive director of Austin’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority on Feb. 5.
