11-year-old on the road to recovery after brain aneurysm

An avid basketball player and Ellis Middle School student is on his way to recovery after suffering a brain aneurysm on Nov. 2.

Peter Samuel, 11, was released from the hospital on Dec. 21 after being paralyzed on the left side of his body. His father, Mathiang Akoi, said Peter simply felt ill one day before suffering the aneurysm.

However, Peter can now walk well and is starting to dribble a basketball again. Akoi said Peter is going to school part time, and his memory is 100 percent.

Peter was in good spirits on Friday morning, when Thrivent Financial for Lutherans presented Peter and his mother, Achirin Bull, with a check to help offset medical costs. Thrivent offered $2,145 to couple with $3,030 that was raised during a benefit at $Grace Lutheran Church on Dec. 16. for a total of $5,175.
