HAYFIELD — The Hayfield girls basketball team played No. 4 ranked Pine Island (2-1 overall) close, but the Vikings came up short by a score of 56-52 in Hayfield Tuesday.

The Vikings (0-2 overall) trailed by as many as 12 early in the game, but they rallied to take a one-point lead before fading away.

“We feel okay about where we are,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “We lost to two ranked teams, but we’re better off playing those teams. Hopefully we keep improving.”
