Riverland men drop two

The Riverland men’s basketball team lost a pair of games over the weekend as it lost to Mesabi 69-67 in Riverland Friday and fell to Vermilion 74-70 on the road Saturday.

The Blue Devils (4-6 overall) led Mesabi by five late in the game and they had a chance to win the game at the end but Andrew Lau missed a three with four seconds left and Zach Bunch missed a game-tying jump shot as time expired.

Bunch was injured in the first minute against Vermilion, which is ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA polls, and he may be out for awhile. It is the third starter RCC has had injured this year and the other two are out for the season.

“It’s frustrating because you bring in these guys and think you’re gonna be good. It’s tough to lose three starters,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said.
