The Austin City Council once again tabled a proposal to rezone property west of Walgreens on 14th Street Northwest until a later meetig.

The council was expected to adopt an ordinance to rezone the land at 205 14th St. NW for commercial use at its public meeting Monday night after two local businessmen recently stepped forward with plans to turn the property into a strip mall for retail and office space. Council members did not come to a unanimous decision at their last meeting over the ordinance, with Council Member Marian Clennon dissenting, which forced a second and final reading of the ordinance Monday night.

The council voted 6-1, with Clennon dissenting, to table the matter after Community Development Director Craig Hoium requested the council wait until the Dec. 17 meeting to adopt the ordinance. Hoium said the city staff needed to review some procedural items before the council makes a decision.
