Snow on the way, but not as much as last week

For the second week in a row, snow is on its way to Austin. However, this time, it may not be quite as hectic, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wis.
“Kind of a long-duration, light snowfall,” said NWS Meteorologist John Wetenkamp. “Right now we are thinking 2 to 3 inches is a good bet.”
Meteorologists say snowfall should reach Austin by late Thursday afternoon and could slowly persist throughout Friday. While the NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook and a special weather statement regarding the snowfall, officials don’t expect high winds or blustery conditions like last week’s storm.
“The main impact from the snowfall will be slippery roads, especially for the Friday morning commute,” Wetenkamp said.
He added by Friday afternoon, 3 to 4 inches of snow could accumulate. High temperatures for Thursday and Friday may reach the mid-20s.
Temperatures may stay consistent, too, reaching highs of nearly 20 on Saturday and Sunday. However, Wetenkamp has a hunch that cold could persist throughout the month of January as the area already has a snowpack that’s keeping the temperature low. He also encourages commuters to stay up-to-date on the latest forecasts for Thursday and Friday’s weather system.
