Another victim involved in a shooting near Lansing during the past week, a 30-year-old woman, has been released from the hospital.

According to the court complaint, that victim was struck in the face by gunfire as she and others tried to drive away from a rural Lansing property while the homeowner shot at their car on Thursday afternoon. The alleged assailants, Joseph and Robert Peterson, have been arrested and since charged in Mower County Court.

The victim reportedly suffered shattered teeth and will still need reconstructive surgery. She was released on Monday.

By all means, residents of Lansing are surprised.

“It’s really, really, really unusual because we’re normally a quiet village and a quiet township in that sense,” said Kathy Paine, who has lived many years in rural Lansing. It’s the first time she recalls such severe crimes happening in the area.

Authorities say the two crimes are not related. However, Amazi warned potential party-goers to be wary of events like Saturday’s that are only advertised via social media and have blanket invitations to many people. Amazi said had authorities known about the event, they would have prepared for it. She added Saturday’s shooting shows that this type of fiasco “can also occur just about any place.”
