More than a week after a shooting injured five people near Lansing, authorities are still looking for suspects and evidence that may lead to an arrest.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said a detective and chief deputy are also working on the case, which has consumed much of the department’s time every day since the Nov. 10 incident. She added the investigation will continue for “as long as it takes to get an arrest.”

The shooting happened at about midnight at Lansing Corners Event Center after a hip hop event hosted by Kings of Africa ended, and people moved to the parking lot. Hundreds of people were reportedly at the event that was advertised as “KOA Presents: E-Man’s 18th B-Day Bash” — an 18-and-older, alcohol-free party. Still, many minors indicated via Facebook they would attend the party, and deputies reported seeing liquor strewn about the parking lot.

The shooting is gang related, according to the sheriff’s department. Alleged suspects, victims and attendees of the event have remained silent throughout the investigation, possibly for fear of retaliation.

Amazi hopes the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will be able to identify the caliber of bullets found at the scene to identify a second weapon they say is involved. Shell casings found at the scene may also provide information. One gun is already in evidence.

“We know there were two,” she said. “There were shell casings from two. We will try for that, but that’s difficult.”

St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where the five victims were transported, would not provide updates on the victims’ conditions. However, Amazi confirmed days ago that one victim had been released, and two in serious condition have been upgraded.
