HAYFIELD — The Hayfield girls basketball started strong, but couldn’t hold on in a 72-59 loss to Goodhue (1-0 overall) in its season opener Tuesday.

The Vikings (1-0 overall) led 36-35 at the break, but Dani Wagner, who scored 16 points and Abby Pollock each fouled out of the game with six minutes left.

“In the second half we didn’t do a good job on defense,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said.
