Girls swimming and diving: Packers advance six to state

The Austin girls swimming and diving team advanced six athletes to state at the Section 1A swimming and diving finals in Ellis Middle School Friday.

Austin senior Helen Heimark advanced to state in all four of her events — the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles, the 200-yard freestyle relay with Lindsey McAlister, Emily McAlister and Merideth Fritz, and the 400-yard freestyle relay with Fritz, Maddie Kinney and Lindsey McAlister.

Austin junior Autumn Laury earned her first career trip to state in diving as she finished in second place, Fritz advanced in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard medley relay team of Kinney, Emily McAlister, Fritz and Lindsey McAlister earned a trip to state.

Austin assistant coach Alexa Dolan-Peterson was named Section 1A assistant coach of the year at the meet.
