The Austin City Council won’t just rezone property west of Walgreens on 14th Street Northwest at its public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday inside City Council Chambers.

Council members during a public hearing will look at a preliminary plat to add five houses to Dobbins Creek Estates. The property, located at the 1700 block of 28th Street NE, would also need new easements, roadway and utilities, and city officials would have to revise road and storm drainage plans.

The council will also set a public hearing for Dec. 17 to adopt its annual five-year Capital Improvement Plan and accept the results of this year’s election.

Council members are expected to allow the city’s Planning and Zoning department to remove junk or illegally stored vehicles at 1509 First Avenue SE and 100 12th Street SE.

In addition, council members will hear a powerpoint presentation on Vision 2020, an update on Jon Erichson’s new position as executive director of Austin’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority, and hear details on the Minnesota Solar Challenge, a federal Department of Energy program offering assistance to local communities interested in creating more solar energy, at a work session after the council’s public meeting.
