The Athletics opened their girls basketball season with a flurry as they forced 20 turnovers in the first eight minutes in a 75-19 blowout win over Schaeffer Academy in Pacelli Gym Friday.

LP came at the Lions (0-1 overall) in waves throughout the night and when it was all said and done, the Athletics forced a total of 46 turnovers.

“We go nine deep and we were shuffling kids up and down the floor,” LP head coach Brad Walter said. “We wanted to do controlled chaos and I think that’s what everybody saw. We’ve got a lot of talent and lot of kids and this is the style I’ve wanted to play since I started coaching.”

LP junior Ann Rysavy picked up her first triple double of her career in the win as she finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 12 steals and seven assists for the Athletics (1-0 overall, 1-0 SEC).

“We couldn’t do anything with out each other and every accomplishment we make as an individual comes from our team,” Rysavy said. “I don’t what it is, but this year we’re a lot closer and we’re playing all together as a family.”

While Rysavy was wreaking havoc in the Schaeffer backcourt, LP freshman Sarah Holtz was making her living in the paint. Holtz, who played wing last year but moved to power forward this year, finished with career-high 23 points, to go along with 11 rebounds.

“It was a really new experience to have that much physical activity,” Holtz said. “You just try and get a body in there, get the board and put it in.”

Rysavy said Holtz will give LP some inside toughness throughout the season.

“Sarah’s huge and she’s our big post player now,” she said. “As a freshman going against those big seniors, I think she’s got the confidence and she can do it.”

Madison Truckenmiller finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals.
