Olive Felton, 88, formerly of Austin, Minn., died peacefully following a stroke, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Cerenity Care Center–Marian, St. Paul, Minn.allied
Olive Sylvia Dalen was born Jan. 1, 1924, to Oscar and Stena (Kyllo) Dalen. Her family lived in the Sargeant, Minn., area until moving to Austin, where she graduated from high school. She was confirmed in 1937 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, where she was a member for 75 years. On Dec. 29, 1945, Olive married Richard ‘Dick’ Felton. They lived on the family farm until moving into Austin in 1989. Olive taught elementary school for nine years and was a lifelong learner. She was very proud of her education and the members of her class who completed their teacher training together. Many still meet regularly for lunch. She dearly enjoyed her family, her friends, and her faith. She was a faithful volunteer and participant in many activities at St. Olaf for many years. Olive especially enjoyed reading and current events, needlework, the company of family and friends, and always had a good cup of coffee and a cookie ready to share.
Survivors include her children, Steven (Ann) of Rochester, Joan of St. Paul, James (Diane) of Fridley; five grandchildren, Laura Felton Rosulek (Michael), Emily (Samuel) Pearson, Lauren (Matthew) DePoint, Taylor (Abbie Vander Maten), and Briana; one great-granddaughter, Sylvia Rosulek; a sister Jane Sievertsen of Chatfield, Minn.; cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Stena Dalen, her husband Richard Felton, her brother Olgar, his wife Lyla Dalen and her brother-in-law Hermes Sievertsen.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Kristi Koppel officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The family prefers that memorials be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church’s Expanding the Mission Capital Campaign or to a recipient of donor’s choice.
