Piano event set for three Austin venuesPublished 10:26am Wednesday, November 14, 2012
The Harris Piano Competition sponsored by the Hormel Historic Home will be held on Nov. 17. The day will include private morning competitions at three sites: HHH, St. Olaf Lutheran Church and The Paramount Theatre.
Thirty-six youth ages 4 through 18 will be judged by professionals from outside the Austin area.
The afternoon portion of the event will begin at 3:15 at the Paramount with a question-and-answer period with professional musician Mory Ortman of New York City.
The top two ranked contestants in the four age categories will then perform in a free concert beginning at 4 p.m. An overall winner will be named for the evening competition by judges from St. Olaf College and Ortman.
As a professional musician, Ortman has accompanied auditions, offered lessons and coached and been a music director in New York.
