Another victim released from hospital, others upgraded

Authorities believe Saturday night’s shooting that injured five people near Lansing is gang related.

“There are several gangs that are involved in this situation,” said Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi.

The shooting happened at about midnight on Saturday at the Lansing Corners Event Center after a hip-hop concert ended, and party-goers moved into the parking lot. The Mower County Sheriff’s Department got to the scene shortly after the shooting; however, witnesses, including the five victims have not cooperated. Amazi said witnesses are likely not cooperating because of fear for retaliation from the alleged assailants or others.

The local sheriff’s department is cooperating with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and has sent evidence to that organization, including bullets removed from victims and shell casings found at the scene. Amazi said authorities recovered one of multiple guns involved in the shooting, and there are several people of interest. Still, no arrests have been made.

“We’re spinning our wheels right at the moment,” she added.

Of five people struck by gunfire in Saturday’s shooting, including two critically injured, one 17-year-old from Sioux Falls, S.D., has been released from the hospital. He was reportedly shot in his right calf. Amazi added conditions of everybody injured have been updated, as well, and those involved will recover.
