Republicans: Choose compromise over pouting

Letter to the Editor

In the days following the election I have witnessed some disappointing behaviors. It is perfectly acceptable to be disappointed if the candidate you support did not win. What is not acceptable is the way many people are showing their disapproval. Over the past few days I have had encounters that, frankly, have made me quite disappointed in my fellow U.S. citizens. Here are just a few examples: “Booking the first ticket I can find out of this country,” “I’m moving to Canada, see y’all in four years,” and “Well, looks like the Mayans were right after all.” Instead of degrading our leader and complaining about what the next four years may bring, why don’t we all look at it from a new perspective.

I don’t care if you are Republican, Democrat, black, white, gay or straight, a single person can not simply change the country in four or even eight years. Of course, adjustments will be made and new things will be implemented; however, not everyone will be happy with these changes. This is why we have the right to vote, why we have a Senate, a House and so forth, so that many voices can be heard.

While voting may be about electing leaders that hold your values and beliefs, it is also about our freedoms. When we vote, no matter the outcome, let us relish the opportunity to do so. When we share our opinions, let it be in a respectful and appreciative manner, because unlike ourselves many are tortured and killed for expressing their beliefs.

Secondly, change does not happen in a day, month, year or even many years. Life happens, situations arise, plans need to be reworked. A single variable or person is not the cause of a problem. Instead of pointing the finger at the president, perhaps we should take a look at ourselves.

It seems that when we do not get our way we immediately put our foot down and refuse to move forward. How do we as a country expect to get anywhere when half of us are stuck in one place while the other half is trying to progress? If we can’t appreciate, support and listen to our fellow Americans, how do we expect a single individual to do it alone with a country of more than 300 million people?

Let’s see Emma, The Democrats forced a healthcare policy down the throats of the American people. They said we have to pass it to find out what is in it. So now you say it is time to compromise? Obama could not run on his failed economic record so he made Romney out to be a bad guy because he is a millionaire and you bought it. By the way Obama and his MSNBC team with tingles going down there legs as well as all of his Hollywood friends are all millionaires also. Obama’s plan is to raise taxes so he can giving away free entitlements to garner votes. He has not compromised on anything. Just because you lose an election doe not mean you have to give in and compromise what you believe in. We still have the freedom to stand up for what we believe in. I am a veteran and did my time to ensure you and everyone else has that right. So don’t tell me to compromise. The US taxpayer is in debt $115,000 each, it will be $150,000 each after 4 more years. Tell your kids and grandkids that is what your compromise got them. Obama made many promises years ago that he did not live up to. He called Bush unpatriotic for having a national debt of 500 billion a year. He doubled that! What does that make him? You say one person can’t make change in 4 or even 8 years yet you and Obama did nothing for the last 4 years but blame George Bush. I am sure we will hear now that we need to change the laws so Obama can get another 4 or 8 years because he just has not had enough time to correct the problems George bush left him. How many years will it take Obama and his blind followers to realize you can’t spend your way out of debt. I know since you are in college all you have to do is take out another student loan.

“Guest”, you’re dumber than I thought. When you lose an election, you don’t get to set the agenda. The winning side does. It’s called Democracy. It’s worked pretty well for 236 years. You don’t like it…go form your own redneck kingdom.

Hasn’t worked, we have 47 million on food stamps and a poverty rate of 17% the good thing is 1 million babies are killed each year or we would have that many more entitled Americans to pay for.

No one is ‘pouting’. They are very busy planning to win the next election, and to counteract the failed policies that will continue for 4 years.
