A local man who led police on a chase through the streets of Austin on March 7 has been convicted of a felony.

Alexander Logan, 26, was convicted Thursday in Mower County Court for fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle. Misdemeanor charges for DWI, reckless driving, driving after revocation, and a gross misdemeanor DWI charge, were all dismissed. Logan was sentenced to three years’ unsupervised probation.

The officer noticed Logan get into a car and drive onto Third Avenue NE and run a stop sign while turning onto Eighth Street NE. Police followed Logan, who turned down several streets, ran stop signs and at one point turned onto Interstate 90 and went 93 to 94 miles per hour, according to police reports.

Logan got off Interstate 90 and went back into Austin, traveling at 40 to 50 mph, and police eventually stopped him.

According to the report, police found an open and several unopened beer cans in the car. Police cited a passenger for allowing Logan to drive the car.
