ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The state has confirmed an emerald ash borer infestation at the Fort Snelling Golf Club.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture says it’s the first new EAB infestation found in the state in 2012.

A Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board forestry employee reported the infestation.

The infestation is within Hennepin County, one of four Minnesota counties already under quarantine for the destructive pest. However, the infested trees are within a half mile of the Dakota County border, so the department will survey of the surrounding area to determine whether a quarantine may be necessary for Dakota County as well.

Quarantines seek to slow the spread of the insect by prohibiting moving out of the county any potentially infested materials, including ash trees and limbs, as well as all hardwood firewood.
