ROCHESTER — Brady Banse pitched a three-hit shutout and the Austin Blue Sox knocked off the No. 2 seeded Rochester Royals 5-0 in the first round of the double elimination Section 4B baseball tournament in Rochester Thursday.

The Blue Sox (14-15 overall) will now take on the Austin Greyhounds for the right to advance to the super section tournament Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Marcusen Park.

“We’re all pretty excited and hopefully we can get a pretty good crowd with two Austin teams playing on a Friday night,” Blue Sox manager Jamey Pratt said.

Austin took the lead in the first when two runs scored on a Royals’ fielding error on a single by Mark Harber. The Blue Sox put it away in the seventh when John Kirby blasted a three-run homerun.

Banse didn’t allow a runner past second base in the win as he threw 114 pitches to get the shutout.

“Brady was in control and I don’t know if we’re just young and dumb or what, but we played relaxed,” Pratt said. “This is our first playoff win in a long time.”
