A heat advisory is in effect for today for all of central and southern Minnesota.

The National Weather Service says the area will face another round of near-record temperatures, which it is calling “dangerously hot today” as southwesterly winds bring hot air across the Upper Midwest.

“Humidity levels will not be overly oppressive, but the actual temperature will be near 100 degrees at most locations by mid-afternoon,” the National Weather Service bureau in Chanhassen reports. It also warns of the threat of heat-related illnesses.

The forecast high for Austin today is 96 degrees.

Heat indexes will range from 100 to 105. The southwest wind is expected to be 13 to 17 mph.

The heat advisory takes effect at 11 a.m. and goes through 9 p.m. A cold front is expected to bring rain and cooler temperatures later this week; however, Tuesday’s forecast still calls for a high of 94 degrees.
