Disagrees with voter ID opinion

Published 10:36am Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I take exception to Bob Vilt’s column in your Sunday paper.

I would wonder why anyone would not want to ensure fair and honest elections. I have witnessed attempts at voter fraud right here in Austin, Minn. Voter ID would have nothing to do with narrowing voter participation. I’m sure that if such a law was passed that Democrats and Republicans as well as Independents would all be willing and able to help any person who did not have a valid Minnesota driver’s license to get a proper ID. This help could be both financial as well as getting the proper paperwork, etc. The cost should be minimal as we should be able to use the driver’s license station where we all go to get our picture taken at time of renewal.

Mr. Vilt, what is your motive for being against something that would be good for all voters? Fraud could happen on either side.

I don’t get it either. You need a valid id to buy a six pack of beer or board an airplane. Somehow, it’s unnecessary when voting for the highest office in the land?

It is hard for college students because they have different addresses during college. I agree that we need to look into a better way to run elections. We need to make sure that our city and county spends money better.

Thanks Bruce!  Well said!  This should be a ‘No-Brainer’ but unfortunately people try to make it about other things.. Apparently it’s okay if people vote multiple times or dead people vote or convicted criminals vote without having their privelages reinstated and on and on!  Get a clue people!
