Greyhounds score 14 runs in winPublished 10:36am Monday, June 18, 2012
The Austin Greyhounds posted plenty of runs in their Saturday win against the Green Isle Irish at the Dewey Tauer Tournament in Red Wing.
The Greyhounds beat the Irish 14-4; however, the Irish appeared as if they would make a late-game push.
“It kind of felt like a loss,” said coach John Frein. “We gave up too many runs based on run differential.”
According to Frein, the Greyhounds were up 8-0 through the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Irish posted four runs in the top of the eighth. However, the following inning, the Greyhounds kept posting runs to the scoreboard and won by mercy rule.
Joe Huffman pitched a complete game, allowing three runs and two walks while striking out five.
The Greyhounds will travel to play the Stockmans Irish Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and will return to Marcusen Park on Thursday night for an exhibition game against the Kewaskum A’s before the Spamtown Challenge opens.
