Wayne Fredrick Wahlers, 81, of Austin, Minn., died at his home on Saturday, April 7, 2012.

Wayne was born on June 14, 1930, in Albert Lea, Minn. to Arthur and Amalia (Schuhmacher) Wahlers. He grew up near Myrtle, Minn. On April 8, 1951, Wayne married Arcley Lau at Glenville First Lutheran Church.

Wayne served in the United States Marine Corp from December 1951 to December 1953. Upon returning from the service, he and Arcley moved to Austin where he worked for the Austin Grain Co. and Double K Specialty.

Wayne is survived by his wife Arcley Wahlers, Austin; daughters Jody LeVasseur (Ross Dettmann) Austin, Jayne (Kevin) Perrault, L’Anse, Mich.; son Gregory Wahlers (Sharona Joseph), Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren Emerlee (John) Gorman, Lincoln, Neb., Michael (Karen) Perrault, Marquette, Mich., Natalie Perrault, Petoskey, Mich., Andrew (Abby) LeVasseur, Rochester, Minn., Daniel Perrault, Houghton, Mich.; great-grandchildren Braden and Colin Gorman, Baby Perrault; sisters Iris Bighley, Albert Lea, Lois Brandt (Babe), Albert Lea, Melba Jenkins, Lime Springs, Iowa; sisters-in-law Elaine Gillard, Glenville, Minn., Esther (Laverne) Walhiem, Glenville; brothers-in-law Arvid (Marge) Lau, Austin, Robert (Mary) Lau, Duluth, Minn.; many loving nieces and nephews with children; and too many caring friends to list.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother; brother Cecil and wife Lucille; sister Doris and husband Tony Belshan; mother and father-in-law Harvey and Cora Lau; sister-in-law Sharon Berg; brothers-in-law Marshal Bighley, John Jenkins, Charles Gillard and Arlo Walk.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 12 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the the Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday for one hour before the service.
