Blue Devil softball team splits with Ridgewater

The Riverland softball team showed how far it has come this season when it picked up a split against Ridgewater, which is ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA, at Riverland Saturday.

The Blue Devils committed seven errors and allowed 13 unearned runs in a 15-5 loss in the opener, but they bounced back with a 12-7 win in the nightcap.

RCC (3-15 overall, 3-5 MCAC South) put together nine hits in the third inning of the nightcap as they scored 10 runs in the frame.

Austin senior Haley Underwood, who has nine hits in her last four games, knocked in a total of four runs on the day for the Blue Devils.

“She’s been hitting the ball and getting on base,” RCC head coach Al Eckmann said. “We’re happy with what she’s doing for us at the leadoff spot.”
